Amanda & Stephen’s Wedding

When I met Amanda and Stephen in September we joked about snow in November in Glasgow but never thought much more of it. Last week as Scotland was definitely starting to feel a lot more like winter, Amanda and Stephen got married at Dumbuck House. The sun was splitting the sky and snow was everywhere which tied in nicely with the rest of the day.

Here are a few of my favourite images from the day.

Marc & Billi’s Wedding

I’ve know Marc for 10 years since we both started at Mammoth as snowboard instructors in 2000. Fast forward 8 years and he and Billi made it over to my wedding in Glasgow so when the time came for them to get married in Melbourne this year, it didn’t take much twisting of my arm to make the trip. The fact that a whole host of the Mammoth crew were going to be there meant it was going to be a good weekend. A long weekend starting on the Thursday and going until the Tuesday. However that side of it will be saved for another post

Marc now works as a wedding photographer / cinematographer in Portland, Oregon so he knew what he wanted and as his business partner was going to do the photos for them it was all planned out. American weddings are done a bit differently to UK ones. Rather than waiting until the bride walks up the aisle to see them for the first time, they have a ‘First Sight’ done at a scenic location with the bridal party to get a lot of the shots done beforehand. This gives them plenty of time for photos and means they can spend plenty of time with their guests later on. This may not be true for all American weddings but certainly seemed more common than not. I personally liked it from a photography perspective but don’t know how it would go down in Glasgow…

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand Relax

Had a mellow weekend planned a few weeks back, catch up on some stuff and get packed before going on holiday on the Wednesday. Looking forward to some down time, drinking beer, eating loads and spending time with the wife. The chilled weekend was scuppered on Monday morning when a wedding photographer whose work I really like was looking for a second shooter in London.

David did my friends Debbie & Mark’s wedding in April this year and Debbie has put me on to him when they booked him. His style is very unique and simple. www.dpphotography.co.uk if you want to check out his work. It’s not too often you get the chance to do something like this, so after my bill paying job finished on Friday I drove down to London for the wedding the next day. Had not stopped by the time I got to Birmingham so decided to see if I could do the full 400 miles without stopping. Reason? None what so ever. I’ve managed LAX to Mammoth before but thats only a cheeky 250 miles and 4.5 hours. 7 hours later I got there after taking the last 45 mins to go 15 miles. Friday night at 10.30pm you would think it would be a bit quicker. Nope still a total cluster.

Quick Trip to London

So an 800 mile round trip coming up this Friday &  Saturday to go second shoot a wedding. Why? Because there are not too many chances you can get to go work with a busy photographer whose work you really like.

I first saw David Pullum’s work when my friends Debbie & Mark booked him for their wedding in April this year. Seeing is unintrusive interaction on the day and the proofs which came from that was also a lesson in itself. A bit different to the dictatorship that was witnessed at another wedding… His work is stunning and has been a bit of an inspiration for me to improve my skills. So when the opportunity came up earlier this week to second shoot with him on Saturday it was a pretty easy decision. Just had to get in there quickly enough. I had spoken to David at the wedding so had a bit of a dialogue to make it easier. Anyway a quick phone call and its all on.

7 hrs driving each way is not fun but its still way cheaper than the train or flying and there are no extra baggage charges. Ryanair came out the worst for that. Who is going to travel without bags if they are going away? At least Dick Turpin wore a mask. Will post some shots after the event.

Pingu goes Skiing & Invents Rocker

Just saw this film on facebook today and though it would be something different. Not exactly what you would expect of Pingu but I suppose he is in the right environment for it. It’s nearly September and the shops are starting to get delivery of their winter gear so that means winter is just round the corner.

Fingers crossed for another good one in Scotland. Maybe then some more of the Scottish resorts will follow Nevis Range and actually try to build a park. In fact lets clarify that, a good park which is maintained daily and you would actually want to go hit. Any takers? Not going to hold my breath though.

Updated Website

My website has been down for most of August due to switching hosting companies. Not being able to control exactly what was happening and having the short arms & deep pockets syndrome I decided to update it & do everything for it myself. Cheers to Dave & Dave who have both helped pure hunners of the last wee while and have given me a bit more knowledge to faff around with this stuff. It isn’t going to be anything stunning but something simple and easy to use. It is a work in progress and will be continually refined over the next few months but the main meat & 2 veg is up.

Jiberish Releases the First Film of the Winter

So trying out the whole blog malarky. Thought I’d go and dive straight in there with trying to embed some video. No idea if it is going to work or not but here goes.

Some of you may have worked out I have a fingers in a few pies and one of them is the UK Rep for Jiberish Clothing.  They are based in Colordao and are in their 5th year designing and manufacturing some of the most in demand hoodies, tees and jeans in the freeskiing market. The only store currently stocking them in the UK is Freeze Pro Shop in Edinburgh. Al and Neil at the shop have been behind the brand since I first brought it to the UK last year.  By keeping the stock exclusive and in core shops it disappeared pretty damn quickly last year. Might have also had something to with bringing some of the Jiberish athletes over for a tour of the UK.

Anyway I digress as usual. Jiberish stopped releasing mini edits last year with no excuse why, much to the dismay of their faithful following. However we found out later they were stockpiling the footage for their first film “Right Back Where We Started”. Needless to say it has been pretty popular so far so seemed like a good piece to try out for embedding for the first time. So here goes.

And it seems to have worked.
